Ubuntu / Linux

The desktop version for Linux is in the works.

The installer is currently not signed with a paid Windows certificate, so Windows may show “Unknown publisher”. What to do?

Installation in three steps

  1. Download the installer. Click “Download the latest version” and save the file.
  2. Run the installer. Choose the language and install location – freely selectable, default is C:\Program Files\Liberty. No Windows restart is needed.
  3. Set up Liberty. Read the terms of use, set your emergency code and login password, and invite your first contact.

Windows says “Unknown publisher”?

The installer is currently not signed with a paid Windows code-signing certificate, so Windows SmartScreen shows a warning. Here's how to continue:

  1. In the blue window, click “More info”.
  2. Then click “Run anyway”.
Important: Download Liberty only from this website. Installer files from other sources may have been tampered with.

Updates: automatic and verified

Signed

Every update is signed with the Liberty release key (Ed25519). Liberty checks the signature before installing.

Checksum

Size and SHA-256 checksum are verified – tampered or damaged files are rejected.

Your data stays

An update only replaces the program. Chats, contacts, keys and settings remain untouched.
