Private messenger · Swiss relay
Liberty is the messenger for confidential conversations: end-to-end encrypted, no phone number, no email address – and nothing is stored on the server. Your messages belong to you and the person you're talking to. Nobody else.

Other messengers try to store as much data as possible, as securely as possible. Liberty takes a simpler path: data your communication doesn't need is never collected centrally in the first place.
No phone number, no email address, no home address. You connect with contacts directly in Liberty.
Messages and media are encrypted on your device and only become readable again on the recipient's device.
The Swiss relay passes encrypted data through its RAM only. No disk, no archive, no copy.
Contacts, chat histories and private keys stay locally on your devices.
No ads and no promotions – in Liberty, it’s all about your conversations.
Liberty contains no plugins. There are no add-on modules that hook into your chats.
Liberty has no built-in bots and no AI assistants. Nothing reads along automatically or replies on your behalf.
Your questions are answered in Liberty’s own support group chat – right inside Liberty.

Bank details, passwords, contracts or HR data are often sent quickly by messenger in everyday work – usually through services never designed for it. Liberty is built for exactly this kind of content: end-to-end encrypted, no phone number, and the server stores nothing. Files up to 3 GB and groups of up to 5000 members with roles make Liberty usable for entire teams.
IBANs, credit card details, payment approvals and bank statements.
Access to accounts, systems and customer portals – including API keys and server access for IT teams.
Trade secrets, plans, technical drawings, quotes, calculations and board papers – up to 3 GB per file.
Customer and employee data, HR and application documents, payslips.
Draft contracts, signed agreements, powers of attorney and ID copies.
Tax returns, balance sheets and accounting records – directly with your accountant or tax advisor.
Confidential communication between lawyers, fiduciaries or advisors and their clients.
Codes for alarm systems, safes and buildings – only for those who need them.
Your message belongs to you and the person you're talking to. In between, nobody sees anything but encrypted data.
The message is encrypted locally on your device before it leaves it.
Passes the encrypted data on exclusively in RAM – nothing ever lands on a disk.
Only here does the message become readable again – for the intended recipient only.
The Liberty relay passes things through – it doesn't store them. Your messages flow through its memory encrypted – and are gone again. No archive, no copy, no database full of chats.
Encryption protects what you write. Beyond that, Liberty reveals as little as possible about who you write to: there is no phone number, every chat runs over its own route, and the relay does not store who writes to whom.
Each contact uses its own receiving route. Not every relationship runs through the same address.
In 1:1 chats, both directions are handled separately. One route can't simply be derived from the other. In groups, each member has their own receiving route.
The relay knows neither names nor phone numbers. What it briefly needs in memory for delivery, it never writes down anywhere.
Contact details and private keys stay on your device – no central address book.
Security works in the background. In the foreground is everything you need day to day.
Private conversations with replies, forwarding, editing and deleting.
With roles, invitations, replies, forwarding and two subgroup levels for structured conversations. Optionally, a separate comment subchat for every post. Up to 5000 members per group.
Local search in chats and message bookmarks – no search index on a server.
Sort, prioritise, archive or selectively mute chats.
Your own storage space for notes and forwarded content – stored only locally on your device.
You control online status, read receipts and time information.
Manage profile pictures in picture groups and choose the right one for each chat.
Only the picture chosen for a given chat is shared, in protected form. Your picture groups stay private.
Your own contact logo and background image for every chat – visible only on your device.
If your chat partner has lost their device, you simply restore the connection together. Contact and chat history are preserved.
One click or a keyboard shortcut hides Liberty instantly – new messages keep arriving anyway.
Official, digitally signed notices from the Liberty operator, for example about new versions. One-way announcements – no chat, no spam.
Contacts aren't found via phone numbers but connected deliberately via invitations, QR codes or exchanged contact information.
Media travel over their own protected data channel. That keeps message traffic lean and even large transfers manageable.
Up to 3 GB – without loading the entire file into memory.
Pick them right in the chat and send them encrypted.
Record, listen before sending, then transfer securely.
Connection dropped? The transfer continues instead of starting over.
Liberty relies on established, openly documented methods – for one-to-one chats, groups, transport and even its own updates.
New keys are derived for every message. Always on – there is no switch to turn it off.
Groups use Messaging Layer Security, implemented with OpenMLS. Anyone who leaves the group does not receive the new group keys.
The already end-to-end encrypted data additionally travels to the relay over TLS 1.3.
Messages and large attachments use separate transfer routes – for clarity and stability.
Liberty only installs updates whose signature and checksum are correct. Tampered files are rejected.
Chats and keys are stored encrypted on your device – protected by your login password or, in device mode, by Windows.
No independent external security audit of Liberty has taken place so far.
No Liberty cloud, no automatic third-party storage. Storage location, backup route and passwords stay under your control.
An emergency code permanently secures recovery. For everyday use, you can choose your own login password.
On supported devices, access can be bound to the device's own security mechanism.
Back up chats regularly to a destination of your choice – at times you set.
Export selected chats password-protected and import them again later.
Chat backups are never stored as plain text – not even on your own drive.
Liberty and its installer speak German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek and Russian.
No. Liberty needs neither a phone number nor an email address nor a home address. You connect with contacts via invitations, QR codes or exchanged contact information.
No – absolutely nothing. There is no copy of your messages on the server, neither on a disk nor in a database. The Swiss relay passes everything through exclusively in RAM, and even there only in encrypted form. Your chat histories are stored encrypted on your own devices.
No. Messages and media are encrypted on your device and only decrypted by the recipient. The relay only ever sees encrypted data.
Liberty avoids unnecessary identity and relationship data as far as possible. However, it does not promise total invisibility: internet connections can leave technical traces such as connection times or data volumes.
You can restore your chats from the automatic backup or a portable .lbackup file. Because Liberty makes no cloud copy, you are responsible for your own backups – and Liberty helps you with that.
The installer is currently not signed with a paid Windows code-signing certificate, so Windows shows “Unknown publisher”. Download Liberty only from this website. Liberty verifies later updates itself using its own digital signature.
Both versions are in preparation. As soon as they are available, you'll find them on the download page.
